School Reform Proposal

As part of our final assignment for HTH 212 School Reform from the Classroom course, we had to design and propose a plan for the development of a new school.  Working in collaboration with Matt Leader, we primarily focused on establishing a community-based school where the main focus was on those students who had a desire to be active, contributing members of their community.  Although our proposed school plan adheres to many of HTH's already existing design principles, we decided to emphasize the community aspect because of the separation of learning activities in most schools and the potential for their application and implementation in the surrounding community.  To this extent, we offer suggestions for implementing student involvement in the community through internships while meeting their course work requirements.

Combatting Sexual Harassment at School

In the course, Diversity, Equity, and Design Principles  T200, we focused on ways to enact change in our very own classrooms.  One specific issue that I wanted to tackle was the issue of sexual harassment at the school-wide level among students.  I knew that if I wanted to effect some change I had to begin in my own classroom.  For one day I set my science curriculum aside and instead, discussed issues surrounding sexual harassment as they happened at our school.  In this artifact, I provide a vivid reflection of how this lesson went.
